The Cosplay Token Project (COT Project) is a Japan-originated initiative that aims to contribute to the development of the cosplay industry by leveraging blockchain technology. This project evolved from "WorldCosplay," a cosplay photo-sharing site with over 1.2 million registered users from more than 180 countries. We have long observed the growing enthusiasm in the cosplay market from Japan, the birthplace of this cultural phenomenon.
The COT Project supports cosplay culture both offline and online, fully endorsing its evolution from subculture to mainstream. Our goal is to form a global cosplay community and create a new cosplay economic sphere. Through these efforts, we aim to further develop cosplay culture and create a more attractive and valuable environment for all participants.
The cryptocurrency "COT," which forms the core of the project, is highly compatible with decentralized applications (DApps) worldwide and aims to be widely used in cosplay-related services and events.
Furthermore, in the emerging "transformation market" born from the desire of many people to "become and discover a different self," we plan to realize service collaborations centered on COT with partners around the world.
The current cosplay market is estimated to be worth $25-50 billion and maintains an annual growth rate of 15%. Considering that the related markets of movies, anime, manga, and games total $180 billion, there is room for further growth in the cosplay market. A 2017 survey showed that spending on cosplay-related products reached about $17.8 billion. When including event participation fees and related expenses, the actual market size is likely even larger.
As part of the funds circulating in this expanding market is replaced by COT, it is expected to improve convenience and transparency, leading to further development of cosplay culture and creation of economic value. The COT Project aims to play a central role in this growing market and contribute to the prosperity of the entire cosplay community.
